What is A2P 10dlc?

A2P 10DLC refers to a system in the United States that allows businesses to send Application-to-Person (A2P) type messaging via standard 10-digit long code (10DLC) phone numbers. Read more on Messagebird's website here.

What is happening?

In early 2022, US mobile carriers will require specific registration for each business sending A2P SMS messages. Non-registered businesses will not be able to send SMS to US mobile numbers.

What does this mean for you?

This only affect businesses who send text messages to US phone number. For those affected, shortly, the SMS functionality to US mobile numbers will stop working if they're not registered.

Team Appointedd have come up with the options for those who utilise SMS communications in the US region:

  1. Start using your own SMS provider and register directly with them. We are in the process of implementing an integration to allow Appointedd customers to send communications through their own SMS provider account. We will have two SMS providers with native integrations, Twilio and MessageBird. This will be available from late February within our Connect tab on Appointedd.

Read more about how to register for A2P 10DLC with your chosen provider here.

  2. Stop using the SMS functionality for the US region, or if you continue to do so, acknowledge that your messages may not reach the customer. Email communications are unaffected by this.

What action do you need to take?

We recommend making a decision on which option you'd like to go with considering your business needs and customers base.

If you'd like to continue to send SMS to the US region you will need to get registered via your own SMS provider (Twilio and Messagebird integrations are coming soon to Appointedd).
