How does the 'search further ahead' window work?

When testing your customer journey, you may encounter a “Search further ahead” window. This guide covers the search functionality rule that governs this behaviour.

Availability views

When using the widget 2.0, you can choose to display your available bookings in a calendar or event view. The custom view simply allows you to choose both calendar and event view on the same widget.

We suggest for frequent 1:1 appointments, to use the calendar view, and for events, to use the event view.

Availability behaviour

Follow these flows to understand the behaviour of the "Search further ahead" window.

Is the service on the widget in a calendar view?

  • No → For event view, see flow below.

  • Yes → Is there a custom schedule applied on the service?

    • No → The search is endless.

    • Yes → Is the customer schedule within the next 41 days (i.e. 1 month and 10 days)?

      • No → Availability shows “Search further ahead”. Clicking extends the search 6 months at a time until availability is found.

      • Yes → Shows available dates immediately.

Is the service on the widget in an event view?

  • No → For service view, see flow above.

  • Yes → Is there a custom schedule applied on the service?

    • No → The search is endless. It will typically display the next few days of availability. Clicking “Search further ahead” reveals additional upcoming days.

    • Yes → Is the customer schedule within the next 6 months?

      • No → Availability will show up until the end of the next 9 months. For example, if today is the 14th October, the availability is shown up until the 30th June. Clicking “Search further ahead” extends the search by 2 years initially, and subsequent searches are 9 months.

      • Yes → Shows available dates immediately. Clicking “Search further ahead” extends results by 1 year, and subsequent searches are 9 months.

If you haven't setup any availability in your calendar or you've blocked customers from booking so far ahead (see booking policies in your account here), then no availability will ever show. Clicking "Search further ahead" in this scenario, continues to extends the search 6 months at a time.

We have other widgets available, but we recommend switching to widget 2.0 as the others will deprecate in due course.
