How to manage your SEO microsite settings

This guide explains each setting on the SEO tab of Microsite Settings.

1. Where to find it

Login to your Hub, and click on Administration → Organisations. Click the Microsite button and select the SEO tab (next to Branding and Display).

2. Enable SEO metadata

What it does: When checked, this adds meta tags and structured data to your microsite's pages, helping search engines (like Google) understand and index your content properly.

When to turn it ON:

  • You want your microsite to appear in search results

  • You want rich previews (titles, descriptions) when your site is shared or found via search

When to turn it OFF:

  • You don't want your microsite actively promoted to search engines

  • You're testing/staging the site and don't want it indexed yet

3. Website URL

What it does: This is your business's main website address. It's used for canonical links - a technical signal that tells search engines "this microsite is related to / a version of this main site," which helps avoid duplicate content issues.

How to fill it in:

  • Enter your full main website URL, including https://

  • Example: https://www.companyname.com

Leave blank if: You don't have a separate main website, or the microsite is your main site.

4. Google Tag Manager ID

What it does: Connects your microsite to Google Tag Manager (GTM), enabling analytics and tracking (e.g. visitor counts, button clicks, conversions).

How to fill it in:

  • Enter your GTM container ID, in the format GTM-XXXXXXX

  • You can find this ID in your Google Tag Manager account under your container settings

Leave blank if: You don't use Google Tag Manager or don't want analytics tracking on the microsite.

5. llms.txt content

What it does: This is plain-text content served at the /llms.txt path on your site. It's specifically designed to help AI assistants and AI crawlers (like chatbots or LLM-based tools) understand what your business does, in plain language.

How to fill it in:

  • Write a clear, simple description of your business: what you do, who you serve, key offerings

  • Avoid marketing fluff - AI crawlers parse this for factual understanding, not persuasion

  • Example:

Appointedd Consulting helps small businesses set up and manage their online presence. We offer website design, SEO consulting, and ongoing digital marketing support. Based in Edinburgh and serving clients across the UK.

Leave blank if: You don't want AI tools referencing your business information.

6. Saving your changes

Once you've filled in or adjusted the settings you need:

  1. Click Save changes (blue button, bottom right)

  2. Click Cancel if you want to discard any edits and leave the page as-is
